Farm Labor in the Valley is a bilingual, interactive exhibit at Springfield History Museum, 590 Main St., Springfield. Justice 3 will be performing songs related to the Farm Workers' Rights Movement.
“Farm Labor in the Valley” will be on display from July 10 - Dec. 26. The museum is open Thursday - Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Free admission!
The exhibit features the history and diversity of farm workers in the Willamette Valley and Lane County from pre-colonization to the present. Informational panels focus on:
** Indigenous stewards and farmworkers
** Filipino workers in the hopyards
** Farm labor organizing in California and Oregon, 1933 - present
** Leaders of the Farm Workers' Rights Movement
** Eugene Friends of the Farm Workers' support for the United Farm Workers' (UFW) boycotts
** UFW campaign against pesticides
** Local farm labor in Springfield and east rural Lane County
On display will be many artifacts collected by Eugene Friends of the Farm Workers, including a home movie from 1975 that features a Solidarity picket line at Safeway, a protest at the University of Oregon, and the March on Gallo in Modesto, CA.
