On June 8, the City of Springfield will be deciding whether to cut $350,000 from the police budget, which would eliminate funding for the implementation of body cameras for the Springfield Police Department.
We as a community need to have accountability from the police. This is a time in which Springfield residents, allies, and community members need to come together and have a unified voice to demand that body cameras stay in the budget.
Meet on the steps at City Hall at for speeches from Springfield community members. Please bring signs and wear masks. This is a peaceful, non-violent protest. Donations of water, masks, gloves, and sanitizers will be gratefully accepted.
Find out more on Facebook. You can also help by contacting Springfield’s elected officials to ask them to not defund body cameras. Email addresses for the mayor and City Council are below.
