LANE DEMS PACK THE HOUSE FOR
PIERCY & STAPP
Lane
County Democrats were standing-room only at July's DPLC General Membership
Meeting Thursday night. An enthusiastic audience in the EWEB
training room heard Mayor
Kitty Piercy lay out her goals for Eugene's future. "We are finding a
balance between business and environmental stewardship," Piercy said. "We
are working with people from all corners of the political spectrum to make
Eugene the best city it can be." Piercy received a standing-ovation.
KOPT Radio host, Nancy Stapp, wow'd the
crowd with a moving, and often humorous, talk about radio, gay rights, politics
and her recent move to Oregon. "My friends say I moved to Disneyland,"
Stapp said. "You know, I live on Friendly Street and talk with Mayor Kitty." More...

At the beginning of the June, I
had the good fortune to attend
Emerging Leaders Day put on by
FuturePac and the House Democratic
Caucus. The event is held
biennially for potential state
representatives and those interested

can better connect with the
state leadership to strengthen
our county Democratic delegation
in the legislature; I left with
my faith in the bright future of
Oregon restored and my belief
in the “big tent” strongly affirmed.

BUSH NOMINEE -
TOO RIGHT, WRONG FOR
AMERICA
"The
nomination of John Roberts Jr. to the Supreme Court is exactly what we expected
of this administration," said Val Hoyle, Chair of the DPLC, responding to
questions about the Bush decision to send up the name of the federal appellate
judge.
"This nomination proves the importance of reclaiming America
from the extremist right. I invite anyone who is concerned with this
decision to join us on Thursday night to learn how we first plan to Take Back
Oregon, and then take back the White House."
BLUMENAUER EVENT A CHILLING
SUCCESS
Congressman
Earl Blumenauer made a brief stop in Eugene recently to host a VIP Ice Cream
Social for DPLC Officials and card-carrying members.
More than seventy people showed up for the event in which Oregon's Third
District Representative made a strong case for all Democrats to come out of the
woodwork for the 2006 mid-term election.

LEGISLATIVE
REPORT:
RURAL ISSUES
DISCOVERING OUR
COMMON VALUES
By State Senator Floyd
Prozanski
District 4 -
South Lane & North Douglas Counties
Some people believe that the difference in ideology between mostly "red" rural
areas and mostly "blue" urban areas produces inevitable gridlock. I disagree.
Even though there is a rural-urban divide in parts of the state, it is not
fatal. Most Oregonians share common values.
